And speaking of U.S. politics

How about that Al Gore, eh?

I mean, regardless of what you think of him and his methods, you have to admit that going from being the butt of everyone's jokes in 2000 to an Oscar and now the freaking Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 is one of the best political comeback stories ever.

Not that Al Gore doesn't deserve large pats on the back, but... I am still puzzled why he was awarded the Peace Prize. What has he done to promote peace or, paraphrasing the wording of Nobel's original criteria, "the fraternity of nations"?

I applaud Mr. Gore, but this award doesn't seem... relevant. At all.

Well, it's a combination of awards that certainly has never been seen before...

(And better Gore than some of the other recipients...)

Rumor,

As I understand it, the Nobel Peace Prize isn't actually all about peace anymore. It does seem like kind of a weird name for what he did, though, doesn't it?

Still, the story. It's great. Someone needs to make a movie about him. :-)

Having questioned the Peace Prize for advocating against global warming, I found an NPR comment yesterday quite interesting: They stated that global warming could result in the potential future lessening of global resources such as water, crops, etc. This situation could result in battles between nations for those dwindling resources. Rather makes sense when you look at it that way.

As for Gore himself, it doesn't take much imagination to see how different the world would be today had he been "appointed" president in 2000, eh? What a difference a moron in office makes . . . .
