There is no doub that Harper is hell bent on taking down all ideological or partisan rivals and banishing then from the Canadian political spectrum for good and all, but I don't think he can be held entirely accountable for your failure to time manage. :)

It's totally his fault! I mean, who else's could it possibly be? Come ON.
York University workers have been on strike for four weeks now, so for those students this is all happening in the midst of a great academic limbo!
I've got two courses worth of marking to complete. Augh. It would figure that this would erupt two days after my last seminar on Canadian political history.
Ah, but you know what the best part is? If this coalition lasts more than six months, it will be seen as wildly exceeding expectations. Coalition NOW!
Yeah seriously, I have about 9000 words left to write before I can really "pay attention" to any of this stuff.
I'm a happy professor about now. You see, you were so kind as to have an election set for the very week in which I was introducing electoral systems, and now you are having some extremely interesting post-election politics just as it is about final-exam time.
