I bet his wife's name is Fanny

Okay, we all need to start paying attention to this guy who Discover Magazine is calling "the Energizer" (link courtesy of Bound by Gravity). Not because he's managed to keep the energy bill for his 4000-square-foot home down to five dollars a month. Not because he's a "physicist, economist, inventor, automobile designer, consultant to 18 heads of state, author of 29 books, and cofounder of Rocky Mountain Institute, an environmental think tank." No, all that is just icing on the cake.

Instead, we need to listen to him because his name is AMORY LOVINS, and yet he's still managed to do something with his life that doesn't involve the sex industry. Which has to be one of the most impressive accomplishments I've heard about in some time.

Y'know, I once lived in a college-student occupied house with 2 other guys, near Garneau theatre. We managed to drop our energy comsumption in the summer months down to almost nil, but we ended up paying about $35 a month in power bills anyway. About $30 of it was fees, which sprung up after the Klein gov't finally removed the cap on the deregulated industry so that they could raise rates. There fees were instituted to make up for the last few years that they couldn't raise rates. There was no way around them.

Why do I mention this? Well, it still just galls me, that's all.

Talk about something to aspire to! What I wouldn't do to have a house heated by a frog and crayfish pond.

Would a future like this abolish the American craving for war? 'Cause no reliance on oil = No need to conquer. And, really, I can't see the US government designing a plan to attack Italy for its vineyards and rosemary crops :)

I like the last three paragraphs: Musa acuminata plant finds horse manure and then "goes bananas". But how can it have lived for twice its expected lifetime if banana plants normally produce for 25 years and Lovins' house is only 23 years old?
